How to Get the Best Fall Foliage in the Rocky Mountains | Colorado Wedding Photographer
Colorado is known for its beautiful fall foliage, and there are plenty of ways to see the best color changes during this season. One option is to take a scenic drive through some of the state’s most picturesque areas, such as Rocky Mountain National Park, Maroon Bells, or the San Juan Mountains. There are quite a few lesser-known areas in Colorado that offer fantastic fall foliage views. Some of these areas include McClure Pass, Kebler Pass, and the San Juan Mountains. Other beautiful areas include the Crystal River Valley, Kenosha Pass, the Uncompahgre Plateau, and the West Elk Loop Scenic Byway. Planning an engagement session to get the perfect fall colors can depend on a few things.
First, choose a location that is meaningful to you and your partner. There are countless unique and special locations that couples have chosen for their engagement sessions, as each couple has their own personal style and preferences. It’s all about finding a location that speaks to you and your partner and reflects your personalities and love story. We have found that fall foliage peaks in the mountains first end of September then starts in the front range in the weeks to follow. Setting a date would depend on your location.
Second, dress comfortably yet stylishly. Choose clothing that reflects your personal style, but also keeps in mind the location and vibe of the shoot. We find it best to dress in neutral tones. You will have a lot of color with the leaves, so choosing more earthy colors would be beneficial.
Third, work with a professional photographer who makes you feel comfortable and at ease, but also knows the area well. Communication and collaboration during the shoot is key to capturing authentic and beautiful fall foliage colors.
Finally, have fun and enjoy the process! Engagement sessions are a time to celebrate your love and excitement for your upcoming wedding. So don’t be afraid to be silly, adventurous, and affectionate during your shoot. Colorado can be the most so beautiful in fall, but remember it is short lived.
